The GuildSomm Board of Directors will welcome Yvonne Cheung as its newest member beginning on March 1st, 2021. She has committed to a three-year term, with an option to serve additional terms. The Board looks forward to welcoming her input as a creative an innovative leader in international wine business.
Cheung has worked for Swire Hotels since 2010, when she was hired to build the wine program for their flagship Hong Kong property, The Upper House. In the decade since, Cheung has taken on the dual roles of Group Director of Wine for all properties and Director of Restaurants for The Upper House
Cheung was born in southern California and graduated from UCLA with degrees in Cultural Anthropology and East Asian Studies. In 2005, she relocated to New York to pursue food and wine studies and graduated from the Culinary Institute of America. Later, she moved to Napa Valley to deepen her foundation in wine and worked as a sommelier and wine buyer at the Carneros Inn. Professional growth and curiosity have always been primary drivers for Cheung, and she has continued to challenge herself with trade competitions, winning the international Ruinart Challenge in 2014 and the CMS Rudd Scholarship in 2015.
As a member of the GuildSomm board, Cheung plans to help GuildSomm expand its international audience and “nurture a diverse community.” She says, “GuildSomm has strong roots and tremendous potential in its outreach. The team here and the engaging, high-quality content they produce position GuildSomm as a driver for the greater advancement of this industry. I am excited to contribute to its next phase and to see it thrive internationally.” The Board of Directors are certain that the GuildSomm community will benefit from Cheung’s dedication to wine education, conscientious nature, and business savvy.
